Federal Government invests more than $1 million in key tourism infrastructure for Riverview

January 22, 2008 -- Riverview, New Brunswick -- Rob Moore, M.P. for Fundy Royal today announced an investment in the Fundy Gateway, an important tourism infrastructure project which will promote local operators and strengthen Riverview’s connection to the Fundy tourism experience.

“This investment of over $1 million will promote local tourism and enhance the long-term economic development and potential of the area,” said Mr. Moore. “The Government of Canada is getting things done for the people of Riverview and New Brunswick.”

Strategically located along the south bank of the Petitcodiac River, at the junction of the Gunningsville Bridge and the Riverview Causeway, the Fundy Gateway will promote local tourism operators, artisans and craftspeople.

“This project complements our long-term investments in the Fundy Trail,” said Mr. Moore. “Our government is committed to ensuring that Riverview and New Brunswick remain first class tourism destinations.”

The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund, has approved $1,001,500 toward the total project costs of just under $2.7 million. The investment will support costs associated with renovations to a surplus fire hall building, land development and construction including an interpretation centre, kiosks and boardwalk and parking area.

Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the M.P. for Fundy Royal.
